Mrs. Mellie May Anderson, age 90, who has been making her home with her niece, Mrs. Don (Merle) Newkirk at 111 Washington St., Covington died at 7:15 a. m. Monday, Oct. 4, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where she had been a patient since Sept. 17. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. Anderson had been a life resident of the Perrysville community until 1948 when she came to Covington to reside with the Newkirks. She was born April 29, 1875, near Perrysville, the daughter of William Riley and Sarah Susan Craft Trosper. She was married Nov. 9, 1898, to Melvin Harvey Anderson, who preceded her in death Dec. l5, 1947. She and her late husband had operated a restaurant in Perrysville from 1915 to 1928. Mrs. Anderson was active in church, lodge and Red Cross work. She was a member of the Covington Methodist Church and a former member of the Perrysville Methodist Church. She was a member of the WSCS, the Win-One Class and Schaffer Camp 9601, Royal Neighbors, of Perrysville. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and a sister. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington where funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday. The Rev. Donald Ashley, pastor of the Covington Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hicks Cemetery, west of Perrysville.
